For the first time since 2004, I will have the opportunity to watch Smackdown on a regular basis. Where I live, there was never a strong enough UPN affiliate to receive, and DirecTV refused to offer the only one around as part of the local channels package, so, after I left Carbondale, I was in the dark about the blue. Luckily, the internet would still provide me with rundowns of what happened, so I could at least keep up with everything that had went on.
Well, if I were a casual fan or non-fan, I would be led to believe that this show will be headlined by King Booker vs the Undertaker, and will in some way contain John Cena. Where did I get such a proposterous notion? Why, the DirecTV guide of course! It reads: "John Cena; King Booker vs the Undertaker." However, anyone who watched RAW Monday or Unforgiven Sunday knows that John Cena won back the WWE Title, and will therefore not be going to Smackdown. Thus, this leads the people who actually watch the programming to believe that John Cena will not be contained in the show. This guide entry and the appearance of Cena on the hype commercials for the CW network make me think that match was originally booked the other way... but that's RAW, and we're talking about Smackdown, so lets move on.
Well, first up they have the latest chapter in Eddie exploitation with Rey Mysterio vs Chavo Guererro, possible for the right to pee on Eddie's headstone or something. Suddenly, now I don't even feel like watching this show. What else can they give me that may change my mind? How about King Booker defending his World Heavyweight Title... against Vito, the guy in a dress. Wow. I think Matt Hardy has a better chance of leaving Smackdown with the title than Vito (at least in his current gimmick.) This is how they plan to improve upon a 1.0 rating last week? That's a TNA iMPACT rating! Maybe they're trying to kill Smackdown.
I'll just have to wait and see how this show ends up, but I'm not expecting a five star classic. Matt Hardy will likely job to someone... that's always fun! I'll probably get to see Ninja Andy's favorite wrestler, K.C. James. Most importantly, I'll get to hear JBL's commentary. Honestly folks, I've been reading some transcripted versions of his commentary from previous weeks, and I'm thinking it alone might be worth the price of admission... which is nothing... so, take that for what it's worth... which is nothing. Why do I feel like I'm going to be drowsy by 9:00PM Friday?
